Shawnee County is located in east central Kansas. It is named for the Shawnee people of the region.
The seat and largest city are both Topeka. Topeka is the state capitol of Kansas.
The county borders Jackson, Jefferson, Douglas, Osage, Wabaunsee and Pottawatomie Counties.
Main highways through the county include I-70, I-335, I-470, US-24, US-75, K-4 and K-30.
